WHAT-WE-DO: After the exploration phase was successfully completed with the trial opening of the \"Dethlinger Teich\" in 2020, the actual planning for complete remediation began in June 2021. The so-called \"Dethlinger Teich\" is the largest known contaminated site with chemical warfare agents in Europe. During and after the Second World War, explosives and chemical warfare agents were dumped in the former kieselguhr pit in quantities unrivalled in Germany.<\/p>\n
Mull und Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH (M&P) was commissioned with further project management, specialist planning and construction management as well as safety coordination in a project consortium with Prof. Burmeier Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH (BIG).<\/p>\n
The services include the tendering of a column-free salvage hall the size of two football pitches, the necessary infrastructure from the roads to other hall structures, a groundwater purification plant and the actual planning of the redevelopment.<\/p>\n
As part of the planned remediation, the entire contents of the former diatomaceous earth mine, which was filled with chemical warfare agents from the Second World War and building rubble until 1952, will be completely excavated and disposed of professionally. The overall measure is planned for a period of 5 years.<\/p>\n
Risk management and contingency planning are also important components of the tasks that the M&P and BIG project consortium takes on.<\/p>\n
