In the Blumenviertel neighbourhood in Berlin's Neuk\u00f6lln district, a groundwater drainage system is currently being operated to support the remediation of contaminated sites.<\/span><\/p>\n Once the remediation of the contaminated site has been completed and the water permit has expired, new concepts for groundwater regulation will be required, as buildings belonging to private owners whose basements are not properly sealed against pressing groundwater are protected in the area of influence of the extraction wells. If the system is switched off, the groundwater level will rise.
