WHAT-WE-DO: The so-called Weddel Loop stretches between Weddel and Fallersleben. The electrified line between Braunschweig and Wolfsburg is an important part of both local and long-distance passenger transport as well as freight transport. In order to increase local transport capacity on the line and make travelling more flexible, the section is being upgraded to two tracks.
The plans dating back to the 1990s included the double-track expansion of the line. Between 1996 and 1998, however, the Weddel loop was initially only realised as a single track. In order to meet future train traffic requirements, it is planned to complete the Weddel loop with two tracks.
Mull und Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH is supporting the construction consortium Weddeler Schleife in the course of soil management on the construction site. Approx. 100,000 m³ of soil will have to be moved in the vicinity of the line extension for the double-track expansion. The plan is to leave at least 60,000 m³ of excavated material in the construction project and utilise it in noise protection measures and road embankments.
On the one hand, this requires extensive waste analysis and evaluation of the material as well as corresponding coordination with the responsible authorities from the three affected districts.
The employees at the Hanover site are looking forward to working on this project until 2023 to improve the quality and capacity of long-distance and freight transport.
