Use of the large-hole drilling method using the example of a renovation project in Hoya

On the approximately 770 m² A chemical cleaning plant was operated on a large site in Hoya between the 1960s and 1980s. After numerous investigations on the site, highly elevated levels of LHKW were found in the soil and groundwater. At the beginning of 2016, the buildings on the site were demolished so that extensive remediation investigations could be carried out. The investigations revealed LHKW levels of over 12,000 mg/kg in the soil. Due to the significant contamination and the risk to the groundwater, source remediation was planned and carried out using overlapping large boreholes. A total of 128 replacement boreholes were drilled to depths of up to 8 metres below ground level. As part of the soil remediation, around 300 kg of LHKW were removed from the soil.

Mull und Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH carried out the remediation investigation, remediation planning and expert support for the remediation.
