As part of the ITVA contaminated site symposium in Wuppertal, Mull und Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft presented the site conversion of the former Osnabrück goods and marshalling yard. The city centre site of around 22 hectares, which has now been derelict for more than 20 years, will be developed as a new district with residential and commercial use over the next few years by the Aloys & Brigitte Coppenrath Foundation's Lok-Viertel-OS GmbH, which was founded specifically for this purpose. The project presented by the two managing directors Thomas Hartmann and Matthias Wieschemeyer consistently follows the principle of sustainability - ecological, economic and social aspects characterise the design and make the Lok-Viertel-OS interesting for a wide variety of investors and users.
The values practised in the project also contributed to the fact that Lower Saxony's Environment Minister Christian Meyer was able to present the Managing Director Mr Hoofe of Lok-Viertel-OS GmbH with a grant notification for land conversion amounting to €8.3 million from the state of Lower Saxony at the end of last year. Mull & Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft processed the application for funding on behalf of Lok-Viertel-OS and received a favourable decision from the N-Bank.
Supervised by Mull und Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH Nord, the conversion of the site, including the clearance of explosive ordnance, will take place over the next two years. In addition to the redevelopment, the site will also be modelled, which will simultaneously form the basis for the development of the quarter with many ecological aspects. A central element is the sensitive handling of water as a protected resource. Through targeted measures based on the so-called sponge city principle, rainwater is kept in the neighbourhood and contributes to sustainable green growth and natural cooling through evaporative cooling.
We are looking forward to an exciting and pioneering project, and not just for Osnabrück.
