Deconstruction planning and supervision of a former school in Hammer Strasse. Hamburg

The public sector is planning to build a new school on the property at Hammer Strasse 124 in Hamburg. The property has served as a school site since the 1960s, with the northern buildings still in use today. The southern buildings have been vacant for some time and have since been made available as accommodation for refugees. The redesign required the demolition of the existing buildings and the unsealing of the surfaces. Mull und Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH was commissioned to prepare the tender documents for the demolition of the buildings and to supervise the specialist construction work during the demolition work. The demolition is to be carried out in two construction phases, as the northern buildings can only be demolished once the school has moved.

The tender took place in summer/autumn 2022. The demolition work began in December 2022 with the clearing out and gutting of a total of four buildings. This was followed by pollutant clean-up, mechanical dismantling and disposal of the construction waste. When dismantling the components in contact with the ground (foundations, basement walls), the work had to be supervised by an explosive ordnance company, as there was a general area of suspected unexploded ordnance on the site in the area of the buildings to be dismantled. The work was completed in June 2023. The demolition work was supervised by M&P as an expert.

The area with the demolished buildings was handed over to the client in a cleared state in June 2023. The demolition of the buildings in the 2nd construction phase will follow after the school has moved.
