"Plan. Decide. Delegate. Tackle. Rethink. Motivate. Giving freedom. Draw boundaries. Be a role model. Showing courage. Stick together. Leading the way. Pulling together. Achieve goals. Sailing"
For example, sailing is advertised as a team-building activity.
This was to be tried out on a small scale and so in October M&P organised a special kind of Alster experience with all Hamburg members (M&P Ing. / M&P Energy / BIG). Two Valken, a small open keelboat with gaff sails, were used to explore the Alster on a beautiful autumn day. The boats are 6.50 metres long and 2 metres wide and offer space for up to 6 people. There was also room for Leon (the dog). Also equipped with a life jacket, he took up the challenge. Each boat was guided by an experienced skipper.
The weather was mild and unusually calm by Hamburg standards, but the anticipation was nevertheless great. The boats were made ready to sail together and the casting off manoeuvre was discussed.
But as soon as the boats had cast off, impatience set in - they were given a helping hand! Due to the lack of wind, it was a mixture of paddling with sail assistance. Along the way, the Hamburg skyline was viewed and explained to the new Hamburgers. Finally, however, the perseverance was rewarded and there was still enough wind to sail one or two tacks and jibes. The sails were handled by the M&P sailors. During the course of the trip, all positions were changed so that everyone could try out (and paddle) everything.
At the end, the sails were hauled in and the boats were brought back to the pits. Even if the sailing was a little too short: it was a shared experience that went beyond the daily work routine, with lots of good humour against a magnificent backdrop. The keywords Tackle, pull together and Goals reach were experienced this afternoon. Maybe again next season - with more wind?
