The Ludwigshöhviertel neighbourhood in the south of Darmstadt is being created on the 34-hectare site of the Cambrai-Fritsch barracks and the Jefferson estate, which were previously used for military purposes. The old barracks site offers great development potential for a lively and diverse urban neighbourhood. Approximately 15 hectares are available for residential construction, which will be developed with around 1,400 flats.
MuP Umwelttechnik GmbH carried out initial preliminary investigations on the extensive site back in 2019 in order to assess the subsoil and groundwater conditions. MuP Umwelttechnik GmbH recently conducted an extensive drilling campaign to investigate the subsoil, during which a total of around 60 small pile-driven boreholes and 20 heavy dynamic probings were sunk. The in-house geological laboratory carried out soil mechanics tests such as grain size distribution. The results of the subsoil investigation can now be used to assess and recommend planned foundation variants for the future development.
Furthermore, the infiltration capacity of the soil was tested in extensive open-end tests in excavator trenches. Furthermore, a comprehensive waste analysis is planned with the help of excavator trenches. In this way, the resulting earth masses can be utilised or disposed of immediately during the earthworks. MuP Umwelttechnik GmbH is accompanying the further construction progress and providing support with geotechnical and waste law expertise.
