WHAT-WE-DO: Due to the greater availability of jobs, many people are still moving from the countryside to the cities. As a result, living space in the cities has already become scarce and is facing steadily increasing demand. Building land is also still in high demand and therefore correspondingly expensive.

In order to avoid high investments for new building plots and their development, property companies are now increasingly relying on a new model for creating living space: adding further residential storeys to existing apartment blocks.

The construction of additional storeys generates additional building loads, for which the existing foundations are usually not designed. Our branch in Hagen therefore examines both the ground conditions in the immediate vicinity and the building fabric and foundations of existing buildings that are planned to be extended. The aim of the investigations is to check the stability of the building, taking into account the additional loads, and to develop structural solutions for the realisation of the extension.
