On 22.12.2022, the time had come: Lower Saxony's Environment Minister Christian Meyer handed over a funding decision under the ERDF programme for around 8.3 million euros to Mr Gerd Hoofe, Managing Director of Entwicklungsgesellschaft Lok-Viertel-OS GmbH.
ERDF stands for European Regional Development Fund and is intended to promote sustainable urban development, among other things.
M&P Ingenieurgesellschaft has many years of experience in applying for ERDF funding. Various projects for the revitalisation of brownfield sites in Lower Saxony could only be realised through successful applications.
M&P Ingenieurgesellschaft also processed and submitted the ERDF application for Lok-Viertel-OS GmbH. The application processing included detailed project descriptions with cost estimates, a subsequent utilisation concept and various statements from authorities.
With the support of the funding that has now been provided, the derelict site of the former goods station in Osnabrück is being redeveloped. This includes the demolition of existing buildings, deep rubble clearance, explosive ordnance detection and soil remediation. The revitalisation of the former freight depot site will make a significant active contribution to reducing land consumption.
The plan is to create a sustainably designed new district in Osnabrück on the 22-hectare site over the next few years. This envisages around 2,000 residential units and residential-compatible commercial space and is characterised by a particularly high quality of stay and movement, including green spaces covering over 40,000 square metres. The aim is to create an urban neighbourhood of the future with short distances, forward-looking mobility, strategically planned green spaces and a supply from renewable energy sources. A core element of this is to be the Green Loop: a multifunctional green area that invites people to linger as a local recreation area, play area and recreational space and at the same time serves as ecological drainage as part of a planned sponge city concept.
M&P Ingenieurgesellschaft was thus able to successfully contribute to the realisation of a sustainable urban development plan.
