Vibration measurements and forecasts

During construction work, in particular compaction, pile driving and vibration work in civil engineering as well as demolition and dismantling work, the vibrations generated by construction equipment or falling building parts can be transmitted to neighbouring buildings and can cause considerable damage. Vibration measurement during construction can be used to continuously monitor vibration-related influences and subsequently minimise or eliminate the effects and risks to people and building structures.

TABERG Ingenieure GmbH has been successfully carrying out vibration measurements for several years in commercial, industrial, private and public buildings. These are used to monitor and document harmful vibration effects on the local building fabric, sensitive machinery and plant technology as well as historic or listed buildings.

The effects of vibrations on buildings are standardised in DIN 4150-3. By contacting our specialist engineer and the construction site personnel at short notice or through a defined alarm chain (by SMS or e-mail), any exceedance of the DIN threshold values is communicated immediately without delay. Based on a vibration analysis, the local construction site personnel are advised immediately so that work can be resumed as quickly as possible.

The vibration measurements can be carried out by an engineer on site in the form of a short-term measurement campaign lasting just a few hours or alternatively as long-term measurements to accompany an entire project. This means that our engineers can cover both short construction measures or individual construction phases as well as longer-term projects.

Depending on the customer's wishes, a brief documentation of the measurement (e.g. as a weekly or monthly interim report) including an assessment of the limit value violations that have occurred or a summarised measurement report on the entire construction project can be prepared as part of the vibration measurement construction supervision.

Vibration-related disturbances for people in buildings are not uncommon, especially in inner-city areas. The reference values of DIN 4150-2 "Effects on people in buildings" can be exceeded on construction sites with long construction periods, even if the reference values of DIN 4150-3 (for buildings) are clearly complied with. Critical disturbances are analysed and documented with continuous monitoring by the measuring devices installed on or in the residential buildings.

If the general conditions in the vicinity of the construction project are unclear or, as is often the case, there are several buildings in the vicinity of a construction site, a forecast of the vibration propagation can help to identify the most critical buildings or determine the distances that should not be undercut.

Whether a short-term one-off measurement, permanent metrological monitoring or a project-related vibration forecast: TABERG Ingenieure GmbH has expanded its team of highly qualified engineers to include Dr Asslan and is the right contact for all questions in this specialist area.
