WHAT-WE-DO: On Poppelsdorfer Allee, in the heart of Bonn just a few hundred metres from the main railway station, Swiss Life Asset Managers Deutschland GmbH is developing the former Zurich Versicherung site into a residential quarter with around 280 new residential units.
On behalf of the client, M+P Ingenieurgesellschaft in Cologne planned and tendered the demolition of the building and the construction of the excavation pit and provided expert support for the construction work.
A special feature of the 8 m deep excavation pit is the retention of components from the old building and their use for securing the excavation pit. The floor slab and parts of the outer walls of the former underground car park were retained and, in conjunction with back-anchoring, ensure that the surrounding terrain and neighbouring buildings are secured. On the road side, a two-layer back-anchored girder shoring was installed.
At the end of September 2021, the excavation pit of the first construction phase was handed over to the next contractor after 16 months of construction time for the remediation of pollutants, gutting, demolition, securing the excavation pit and the installation of a foundation pad made of recycled demolition material.
