1st Heat Pump Day in Lower Saxony

The 1st Lower Saxony Heat Pump Day took place at the end of February and our colleague Marius Raabe from Mull und Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft in Osnabrück was able to contribute with his report on our experience in the planning and operation of heat pumps in residential construction.

The coalition agreement of the new German government contains ambitious targets, including in the heating sector: by 2030, the proportion of renewable energy in the heating sector is to be 50 per cent, and from 2025, 65 per cent of all new heating systems are to be powered by renewable energy.

The key to this complex task is heat pump technology. Studies show that the number of heat pumps in Germany will have to increase from around 1.1 million today to over 5 million by 2030. For Lower Saxony, this means 500,000 new heat pumps. To achieve this, all parties involved must act in a focussed manner as part of a joint heat pump initiative.

In his presentation, Environment and Energy Minister Olaf Lies emphasised the importance of the heat pump for the success of the energy transition: "The heat pump is the key instrument for making the building stock climate-neutral in the long term. [...] It is therefore also important to take a more holistic view of the heating transition in the building sector - moving away from the energy balance towards a genuine climate balance."

Our colleague Marius Raabe explained in his afternoon presentation how they can be sensibly integrated into planning. The heat pump is a sustainable and long-term solution for residential construction, especially when combined with other renewable energy technologies.

Now it is important to create planning security for investors and private homeowners, to ensure reliable funding and to support the skilled trades in their search for skilled labour.

We at Mull und Partner Ingenieurgesellschaft will actively support you in this endeavour!
